We have a wide variety of hens because, well... we just enjoy variety!
The Araucana has tufted ears and multi-colored feathers, and lays green eggs.
Rhode Island Red hens are a deep red color and lay dark brown eggs.
The White Leghorn is one of the most productive hens and faithfully lays huge white eggs for most of the year.
New Hampshires lay brown eggs, but they aren't very large, so we hold those out for our own household use.

The Buff Cochin is a very large chicken that has feathers on her legs and she looks as if she is wearing pajamas. She doesn't lay eggs well, but it's entertaining to watch her waddle around the pasture.
And we have several other breeds, each with their own distinct characteristics. It's so much fun to see a pasture full of busy, colorful and happy hens. |
